Welcome
Voices

In the new single, “Voices”, it is my goal to unite as many people as possible to sing and celebrate our short time together on Earth. We are not here for long, so we must serve others, educate, self-express, and show kindness in order to live with intention, practice sustainability and achieve peace. Please join us in our anthem that I have written for all of you.

Vision

![]()
Safire is a musical creation team sharing a unique vision of music composition, performance and publishing. Made up of Pacific Northwest songwriters, arrangers, performers and producers, Safire was founded in 2009 by singer-songwriter and owner of Heron Blue Music, Steve Killen.
Safire’s mission mirrors Steve’s creative vision: to use the power of music and language to create a refuge of hope for artists and listeners.
“Music is my way of staying responsive, of staying aware of agony and joy in the world,” he says. “When I founded Safire, I wanted to create more than a musical group. I wanted to bring together the voices of conscientious artists. I wanted to create a place for listeners to reflect on conflict and come out on the other side singing alongside like-minded people.”
The intent of the new single, “Voices,” is to unite listeners with a common, anthemic message. Steve’s lyrics are direct, simple and beautiful, speaking to the urgency of self-reflection, accountability for the world’s challenges and celebration of the short time we share with one another on Earth.
“Most importantly we are creating a message of hope amidst darkness, laughter amidst sadness, simplicity amidst greed, and love in a world polluted by hatred. Safire is not only a musical group. It is the voice of a people with conscience; an assemblage of messengers who aim to continually improve our current state of living and to sustain our home together. Safire is a vehicle of alchemy; a path of transformation”

Steve Killen, founder of Safire, wrote and arranged the new work, Crashing Tiles. Featuring the anthemic singles “Voices” and “Songs In The Winter”, the album explores both loss and a hopeful return.
Crashing Tiles was co-produced by Keith Sommers, who’s expertise in both production and musical arranging was essential in creating thoughtful musical concepts and exquisite fidelity.
Matt Burnett, keyboards and piano, provides seamless melodies that complement every song. He played a critical role in score arrangement and rhythm section production.
Bass player Colby Hendricks drops hints of Tony Levin, laying down foundational heartbeats and slick, buttery lines.
Erik Storm adds fluid grooves and his drum fills, mimicking approaching helicopters, feature in “War Cries.”
On the guitar, Steve is at ease playing everything from a glassy, clean line to a jagged imitation of dropping bombs. His writing and arranging style is unique, influenced by the uplifting melodies of Coldplay, epic guitar tones of Rush, and vulnerability of American songwriters such as Ryan Adams and Jay Farrar.
